I landed in Dublin and based myself in Cherrywood, just outside the city, which made it easy to explore both the capital and the countryside. My first full day was all about Dublin’s heart:

Wandering Trinity College and Dublin Castle. Getting lost in the cobbled lanes of Temple Bar. Shopping along Grafton Street, with a coffee stop at the historic Bewley’s Café. Ending with a River Liffey cruise, watching the city glow in the evening light.

I followed a self-guided walking tour that tied all these together.

🌿 Castles, Gardens & Wicklow

Next, I headed into the countryside. Malahide Castle, Phoenix Park, and the village of Enniskerry were highlights — especially with Powerscourt Estate and its stunning waterfall nearby. Wicklow Mountains offered postcard views, and it was surreal to ride the train from Dublin into such serene green landscapes within just over an hour.

🌊 Seaside Adventures

No trip to Dublin is complete without the seaside. A short DART ride whisked me north to Howth, where I hiked the coastal cliffs and enjoyed fresh food. Another day I strolled the promenades of Dun Laoghaire and Bray, ending with a peaceful walk along Dollymount Strand.

🏝️ The Aran Islands: Timeless Beauty

One of the most unforgettable parts of Ireland was the trip to the Aran Islands. Reaching the islands feels like stepping back in time — quiet villages, stone walls lining the fields, and the Atlantic crashing against dramatic cliffs.

We explored the islands by horse-drawn carriage, trotting along winding lanes past ancient ruins and grazing sheep. From the cliff edges, the views were breathtaking — endless ocean stretching beyond the rugged limestone landscape.

Before leaving, I couldn’t resist picking up authentic Aran wool sweaters for myself and my family. Each piece felt like carrying a part of the island’s tradition and warmth back home.

🌅 Evenings with Family

Some of the sweetest memories came not from sightseeing, but from quiet evenings with my niece and her roommates. We walked down to the beaches and boardwalks, eating ice cream on the cliffs as the sun dipped into the sea.

One evening, we cooked a meal together at her apartment, filling the kitchen with laughter and stories. As she shared her experiences of life at Trinity College, I felt grateful not just for the journey, but for these moments of connection woven into it.

🏰 Big Day Trips

Ireland makes it tempting to venture further. From Dublin, day trips can take you to:

The Cliffs of Moher (towering over the Atlantic). Medieval Kilkenny and the Rock of Cashel. Even Belfast, just two hours away by train.

I loved that Dublin was not just a destination but also a gateway to Ireland’s diverse landscapes and stories.
